Dog-powered three-wheeled rig racing — the fastest dryland discipline
Rig racing uses a three-wheeled rig pulled by one or more dogs. It's the fastest of the dryland disciplines and most closely mimics the feel of dog sledding on wheels. Rigs are more stable than scooters and can reach higher speeds, making them popular with experienced mushers and those transitioning from sled sports. Rig racing is governed by the British Sleddog Sports Federation (BSSF) and features at national championship events.
A specialised three-wheeled rig with brakes and steering, plus standard canicross harnesses for each dog. Bungee lines connect each dog to the rig. Rigs typically cost £300-800.
