Traditional dog sledding — snow-based winter discipline
Dog sledding is the classic winter discipline where dog teams pull a sled over snow. In the UK, the season is limited to winter months and primarily takes place in Scotland and northern England when conditions allow. Sled teams can range from 2 to 12 dogs depending on the class. The Sled Dog Association of Scotland (SDAS) and the British Sleddog Sports Federation (BSSF) govern the sport in the UK.
A sled (traditional or modern design), gangline to connect the dogs, and appropriate cold-weather gear for the musher. Sleds range from basic recreational models to competition-ready rigs.
